New developments as of yesterday = Riley has officially mastered the art of using the kitchen chairs as a tool for climbing. Last week he taught himself how to place a chair underneath a light switch, then stand on the chair and turn the light on/off several times. Self entertainment, I suppose! However, yesterday he reached a higher level by placing the chair against the kitchen counter, then climbing up on the counter and "playing" with Mommy's knick knacks that are placed in the bay window! You might ask - where was Mommy at during this time?? I was in the office rushing towards meeting a deadline, heard the kitchen chairs being moved around and assumed Riley was getting ready to entertain himself with the light switch. I thought to myself - let me just finish this email and then I'll feed him lunch. To my surprise, I soon heard running water and picture frames being banged around!
Now that he knows how to do it, there is no stopping him. Chris and I have gated off the kitchen from both entry points now. We also had to lock-down the living room furniture drawers, as Riley figured out how to unlatch them open. He discovered a pencil in one of the drawers and had a good ol' time marking up one of the living room walls! Daddy caught him in the act and quickly taught him that his actions were a "no-no".
After Riley's nap yesterday, we were sitting at the kitchen table having juice and Fig Newtons. Riley dropped his cookie and climbed off the chair to retrieve it. We both met down on the floor to find it. Riley then shrieked "UH-OH!" and pointed to underneath the table where he had been hiding his next work of art. Yes, our kitchen table is marked up with a lovely brown and green hue. Riley Picasso ratted himself out. Gotta love it!
